BABAR, the Little Elefant

BABAR © Patrick Galbats

Babar is the story of a little elephant: a narrated concert with shadow theatre, set to the music of Francis Poulenc and based on a text by Jean de Brunhoff. After his mother is killed, Babar finds himself in the city, where an old lady takes care of him. He discovers the human world – from eating cake to learning to drive – before returning to the jungle. The combination of shadow theatre and Poulenc’s music (1945) brings out the tenderness and poetry of this original story. More than 80 years after its first publication, Babar continues to captivate both young and old.
