The Performance

At the edge of the great forest live Peter and his grandfather. Grandfather warns Peter never to enter the forest… because the Wolf is lurking there, hungry as a winter’s night. But one morning Peter sets out to explore the dark woods—his curiosity is simply too strong. He meets his friends, the Bird and the Duck, who happily splashes in the pond.

But is Peter ready to face the Wolf, who watches their game from the shadows of the trees? How will he react when they meet eye to eye? Will he try to kill him, tame him, admire his beauty and set him free?

Peter and the Wolf is an initiation journey into the inner forest, where the Wolf waits… the vital, untamed energy of life itself. This Traffik Theater production confronts that force—an energy that makes life brighter and more intense. But beware: that energy can also overwhelm…

Sergei Prokofiev was inspired after attending a children’s music theatre performance in Moscow with his two sons. He created Peter and the Wolf to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra: the clarinet as the cat sneaking through the meadow, the bassoon as the melancholy chatter of the duck, the carefree violin as Peter, and the dark horn as the Wolf.

With this production, already known for its acclaimed Little Red Riding HoodTraffik Theater invites the audience into Peter’s room, where he and his friends—the musicians—bring his story to life. The Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra provides the musical heartbeat of the performance.

Peter and the Wolf (De Pierchen an de Wollef) was initiated and co-produced by login:music, the music education department of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2018, the production was performed with Véronique Steinmetz as translator in sign language (Gebärdensprache), making the piece accessible to an even wider audience.
