A story by the Brothers Grimm, with a flute in the leading role.
A storytelling concert for children aged 5 to 10 and their parents.
Performed in Luxembourgish.
In Germany, there is a town called Hamelin.
In this town, there are playgrounds everywhere, apple trees, ice cream vendors… and benches to sit on when the sun is shining. People greet each other in the morning, wish each other a good day, and don’t cheat too much behind one another’s backs.
But one night, something happened… and in the morning, around 8 o’clock, the baker Quetschekraut exclaimed:
“My petit-fours? My petit-fours are gone! Even the buttery, sugary ones!”
Next, the butcher Theo ran in:
“My sausages are gone. All of them! The good ones and the not-so-good ones!”
Even Madame Félicie from the cheese shop wailed:
“The thieves were here… all my cheese is gone!”
The townspeople were alarmed. Nothing like this had ever happened in Hamelin.
Mayor Bouni decided:
“We must take decisive action!”
The first alderman was strict:
“We must not be afraid to get our hands dirty.”
The police chief was resolute:
“We will show no consideration for losses!”
The fire brigade commander scratched his head and rubbed his hands:
“Let’s set fires everywhere… then we’ll just sort out the rats and the mice!”
But no sooner had he spoken than his face turned red – he realized he had said something foolish. Setting fires… that would burn the whole town down! No, no, no, that simply won’t do.
The entire town council hung their heads and worried.
Following the huge success of Red Riding Hood (performed over 300 times across Europe), Dan Tanson now brings a fresh take on the wonderful world of the Brothers Grimm.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin is an exciting mix of the original story and live music. Dan Tanson has adapted the tale with a contemporary twist, adding plenty of situational humor. Hamelin could just as easily be Luxembourg, and the local political quirks make the story even funnier. Both children and adults will enjoy the performance, making it a perfect family show.

Vincent Biwer’s striking illustrations – especially of the rats – add humor and suspense.
The production features:

Betsy Dentzer – narration
Juan Carlos Díaz Bueno – flute
Louisa Marxen – percussion
Dan Tanson – conception, Luxembourgish translation, direction
